"Perreault Family Origin"
The Family (Perreault) Perrot originated in France in the Bourgogne Burgundy Region. The earliest found recorded Perreault was Francois who was born in 1590. He married Etiennette Chamereau; they had five children. Born in Darcey, France, 1616, was their youngest son, whom was also named Francois. Francois married Marie Sivot in 1640. Marie was also born in Darcey in 1619. Francois and Marie had six children. Their eldest child was Nicolas Perrot.
The first Perrot to leave France was Nicolas Perrot. Nicolas was also born in Darcey, France in 1643. Nicolas immigrated to New France in the Service of Justice Missionaries and was the first ancestor to arrive in the New World. Nicolas was a fur-trader, explorer and interpreter of Indian languages. In 1671, Nicolas married Madeleine Raclos who was born in Paris, France about 1654. Madeleine immigrated to Quebec as one of the "Filles du Roi" "King's Daughters", a program sponsored by the King to promote the settlement and population of the colony. Nicolas and Madeleine had eleven children.

France was active as a cultural leader in the early 16th century. One area in particular in which they lead was the exploration of the New World. The explorers, like Jacques Cartier in 1534, led the way to North America. Champlain, in 1608, made the first of twenty voyages to France to attract settlers and brought the first migrant in 1617. By 1675, there were 7000 French in Quebec and the French Acadian presence in the Maritimes had reached 500. The French founded Lower Canada, thus becoming one of the two great founding nations of Canada. The family name Perreault has made many distinguished contributions in France to the world of science, culture, religion, and education. Amongst the settlers in North America with this distinguished name Perreault who arrived in Quebec from Bourgogne, France in 1671 was Nicolas.
